She makes and applies the glazes.She said the shotgun houses on some of the pieces recall Winton's birth place of Montz, La."The shotgun houses are representative of the houses in that area," Rosa said.She said he loves painting houses and barns.Rosa was born in Spartanburg. She and Winton wed 39 years ago and moved to Chicago. The couple moved here about 30 years ago.Winton received a potter's wheel as a Christmas present in 1985.He was soon turning pots, and began selling them in 1986.Big sellers at the Culture Shop are the handbags created by Jenifer Steller of Spartanburg.Steller calls them Bravura handbags. Bravura means spirited, florid and brilliant. It also is a display of daring. Steller has made bags and sold them to benefit the Bethlehem Center. Steller makes the bags from bras, silk flowers, costume jewelry and other items.This orange peony handbag is $85 at the Culture Shop. Many other styles also are available, each is whimsical and unique. They range from $65 to $125 at the Culture Shop.You can't miss this jade necklace, featuring a butterfly, designed and made by Sue Rothemich of Spartanburg.Rothemich said the Arts Center is the only place that has her work. She does occasionally give pieces to silent auctions or to benefit a good cause. She said any profit from her pieces at the Culture Shop are given to the Arts Partnership.Rothemich primarily makes necklaces. She became interested in jewelry design three years ago, after she attended a wholesale show with beads and stones.
