I just started doing it on a larger scale."She began selling her stuff handbags and wallets made out of suit jackets, ties and other upcycled materials, as well as stationary on Etsy in 2008 and was part of what the site calls a "street team" when she lived in Boise. The purpose of the teams is to connect members with others who either have a common interest or who live in the same area.Her team eventually formed a cooperative and began selling their wares in a brick and mortar store there."It really helped me develop my business," she says of the store."They're popping up everywhere. It's kind of cool to see homemade stuff become more mainstream. It restores your faith in mankind to see people wanting that, instead of mass produced stuff."She trolls estate sales and thrift stores to find materials, and says a lot of people give stuff to her, too."Once people find out I'm doing this, they're really interested in gifting stuff."Sandra gave birth to a daughter, Cedar, six months ago, and her arrival inspired her to create a second Etsy shop.
