"We always find something unique, different. It's a great place. It changes constantly."Saturday's focus is on local business sales those that create jobs, boost the economy and keep your dollars closer to home. "November and December can be as much as 40 percent of your annual business. It's a very important time," said Chandler.Here more than 100 merchants sell their wares without the crowd. "I can still get around, no problems looking," said shopper Charlotte Tunnell. "You can find almost anything you want to look for."Skip the traffic, and come downtown. A trip down Gay Street, and through Market Square, and your holiday shopping is in the bag. 19"It becomes more part of a holiday tradition, less rush," said Julianne Applegate of JulieApple. Her Gay Street shop and studio sells environmentally and socially conscious handbags, collaborating with other artists on her designs."We have a whole new collection for fall and winter," said Applegate. "It's great that people want to be part of the community at an economic level. And let's face it, it's fun to come downtown and shop."But it's the buying that keeps these small businesses going.
