The festivities included an artisan auction with handcrafted items made and donated by Biola employees. They were part of the silent auction conducted during the two hour party. One of the items was a knitted handbag by Michele Hughes, executive secretary to the president. It took about 10 hours to complete. "Everyone here is a proponent of higher education, and what better way to help students than by donating to fund their tuitions?" Hughes, a member of Biola's Class of '92, was a benefactor of the Biola Fund. "Biola employees hope this will alleviate some of the financial stresses students face with the cost of tuition and the holiday season," Biola spokeswoman Jenna Bartlo said. The $540 raised in the auction makes the grand total for this semester's Biola Fund $440,000. This includes donations from on and off campus sources.
