Bolivian villages of Antacucho and Cuchuri combine leatherwork and textile arts to create this suede bag. In the center is a piece of handwoven wool in the tradition of mantas, wool blankets woven in simple geometric patterns that have been used for centuries in the Andes as bedding, shawls, and slings to carry infants. Mantas are traditionally woven on back strap looms, where one end is tied to a tree or post and the other is connected to a belt that the weaver wears. This allows the weaver to keep the tension just by leaning slightly, and makes the loom as easy for beginners to learn on as it is for master weavers to create complex brocades. Here, hand tooled leather serves as a sturdy base. The bag features an interior zip pocket as well as leather handles and a shoulder strap. Handmade by Bolivian artisans, each bag will vary.Using a simple backstrap loom and centuries old techniques, Bolivian families weave mantas woolenBolero from repurposed Sweater: Bolero from repurposed Sweater This adorable Bolero was created from asweater and a few accent pieces.
