Insurance Fraud Jumped 58High unemployment has led some in Florida looking for a way to make a quick buck by staging car crashes.The number of questionable auto insurance claims, and the number of staged crashes, was on the rise last year compared to 2008 in the Sunshine State. Here's an except from a report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau:In Florida, the overall number of Questionable Claims referred to NICB by member companies rose by 15% from 6,500 in 2008 to 7,447 in 2009. By comparison, the number of suspected staged accident claims had a more drastic increase of 58% from 1,268 in 2008 to 1,999 in 2009. These increases coincide with the general downturn in the economy which has seen in Florida's unemployment rate shoot up 38% during 2009, to a 35 year high of 11.9% and 13.1% for the Tampa St. Petersburg Clearwater metro area.Auto industry comeback reopens Etowah foundryJimmie Lewis says her granddaughter moved from McMinn County, Tenn., over a year ago when her husband's job at Waupaca foundry was shifted to Indiana in the shutdown of the local operation.Now, with plans by Waupaca to restart the Etowah foundry and bring back 250 jobs, Lewis hopes her granddaughter and her family will return as well.On Thursday, ThyssenKrupp Waupaca said that early next year it will bring back the foundry that was shuttered as a result of the auto industry meltdown in 2009.Gary Gigante, the company's chief executive, said the facility is one of the most technologically advanced in the iron castings industry."The reopening of our Etowah foundry is good news for our customers and for the state of
